What’s New With The Campaign

We are officially on the one-year countdown to the election. We’re still ahead of the game, because most people don’t get started until the January official signing as a candidate or even later.

As you might know, I’m one of those people who loves to claim a whole month to celebrate my birthday (November 12) regardless of the year. My mom passed away at age 38 of a genetic cancer so still being here is worth celebrating! I’ve posted a video asking my friends and family to contribute to my campaign. As it happens, I’m turning 49 and I’m running to represent district 49, so it only makes sense to ask for a $49 contribution. I’ve been so honored by the response.

October Review:

The Human Relations Commission annual dinner was a beautiful event with an impactful speaker, Dr. Eddie Glaude, Jr. I got to meet him and tell him about the campaign. He had some encouraging words to share.

Dr. Eddie Glaude, Jr., author of We Are The Leaders We’re Looking For. He offered me some wise counsel and I’m looking forward to reading my signed copy of his book.

Friend of the Campaign and marketing guru Ashley Riester was honored for their work creating and leading the Pride Parade and Pride Festival in Evansville.

I had a great time supporting River City Pride in the Rainbow Run. To be honest, I took about a half a lap, but my youngest, who I call Sporty Spice had to win. I love his competitive spirit!

I am not proud about drilling him in the face with blue so I will not show that. I just have terrible aim…:)

After scrubbing all the beautiful colors off, I joined so many in the community for the No Kings Protest downtown. There was music, costumes, dancing, and fun. I notice that there is a substantial uptick in honking supporters driving by vs the occasional one-finger salutes as the months pass by and the federal regime gets more lawless and cruel.

The Four Freedoms Dinner was a great opportunity for local democrats to encourage each other. Terre Haute mayor Brandon Sakbun and candidate for Secretary of State Beau Bayh both spoke to the energized crowd. We were able to celebrate and appreciate our labor union supporters as well.

As the board chair of Holly’s House (www.hollyshouse.org) it was my honor to attend the 4th annual Brian Turpin service awards. Retired Detective Brian Turpin was determined to bring a children’s advocacy center to Evansville after hearing about the model at a conference more than 16 years ago. His hard work and dedication brought it to life, and is now nationally accredited and a grantee from the World Childhood Foundation (Queen Silvia of Sweden’s organization).

Coming in November (and so far):

November 22 – Campaign Launch Event – 2-4 pm at Say’s in New Harmony. Bring friends and family to have some refreshments and let’s talk about our dreams for our community and how I can represent you well. I’m so excited because my big kids are coming up from Texas, my law student daughter will be there, and, of course, Sporty Spice and Kenny. We’ll be having dinner in New Harmony and will hang around as long as we can.

Fun Fact - November is National Adoption Awareness Month. I am touched by adoption. I was pregnant with my son as a teenager and placed him for adoption. My dreams came true when he found me as an adult. We are blessed to be together and share life as a whole family.
